HMNB Clyde Capital Infrastructure Programme Industry Day 2017

Client: Defence Infrastructure Organisation & Royal Navy

Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events was asked to implement an event to bring together suppliers who might be interested in knowing more about the procurement process necessary to support the upcoming Capital Infrastructure Programme at Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde in Argyll & Bute.

HM Naval Base Clyde – commonly known throughout the Navy as Faslane – is the Royal Navy’s main presence in Scotland. It is home to the core of the Submarine Service, including the nation’s nuclear deterrent, and the new generation of hunter-killer submarines.

Organised on behalf of the UK’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation (part of the Ministry of Defence) and the Royal Navy, the one-day Industry Day was intended to explain to main bidders and others in the supply chain about the delivery of infrastructure needed to support the work on the naval base over the next 10 years, including major refurbishment of existing infrastructure and new facilities to support of future activities.

Alongside presentations given by key staff from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and the Clyde Naval Base, more than 30 of the participating companies also chose to demonstrate their capabilities in a parallel Supplier Networking Exhibition giving attendees from across the supply chain a chance to see available technologies and where future opportunities might exist for collaboration.

Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events undertook all elements of the project planning and management including the online registration system for delegate attendance, organisation and implementation of a parallel supplier’s exhibition, venue liaison and other key activities to ensure success. We were asked to oversee the role of Event Manager with only a few weeks given to undertake the project from inception to completion. The one-day event was at its maximum capacity (with significant over-subscription) and attracted attendance from all over the UK.

Size of the 2017 event:

  • 210 delegates
  • 32 exhibitors
  • Sponsorship restricted

HMS Astute Class Submarine Commissioning Event 2010 & 2013

Client: Babcock International (on behalf of HM Royal Navy)

Seeking to identify an event management company with the ability and experience to undertake activities associated with a highly secure facility, Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events was selected to support the Royal Navy’s plans to implement a Commissioning Event for both the first and second of the UK’s six Astute Class submarines.

HMS Astute (2010) and later HMS Ambush (2013) had both been officially launched some months earlier in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria where they had been manufactured by Bae Systems Submarine Solutions.

In readiness for their subsequent sea trials and active service, HM Royal Navy required the implementation of a Commissioning Event at their HMNB Clyde facility to which the Duchess of Cornwall (in 2010) and Lady Anne Soar (in 2013), military and civil dignitaries; and family of serving crew would be invited.

A complex and highly sensitive task, Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events was asked by Babcock International, who manages the HMNB Clyde site, to handle the implementation of all event hardware including the provision of grandstand seating for over 300 guests, marquees, pagodas, crowd-control fencing and other requirements to ensure the smooth running of this military event.

Tata Steel Projects Re-Launch

Client: Tata Steel Projects

Having recently been acquired from Corus, Tata Steel Projects (part of the Tata Group) wanted an event management company to oversee the implementation of a Re-Launch Event. The two-day re-launch was principally aimed at attracting existing and potential clients of Tata Steel Projects to see the full scope of Tata’s engineering and manufacturing facilities at Workington, Cumbria. However, students from local secondary schools were also invited to conduct ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the workshops as part of Tata’s support of local education and encouragement of careers in engineering.

Tata Steel Projects’ facilities in Workington offer the largest engineering workshops in the UK and the client was keen to promote this fact. Supported by the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear), visitors were offered a series of update presentations, a guided tour of the workshop facilities and an opportunity to gain ‘hands on’ experience in the AMRC interactive mobile exhibition vehicle.

Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events undertook all external elements of the project planning and management including the promotion, distribution and management of guests’ attendance, liaison with local schools, provision of a purpose-built marquee, seating, catering, AV production, stage installation and other event requirements.

The two-day event was attended by over 100 VIP guests on the first day and 200 students from local secondary schools on the second day.

Gravatom Engineering Systems Ltd Launch of new NW facility

Client: Gravatom Engineering Sytems Ltd (now known as ONET Technologies)

As specialists in Nuclear, Nuclear Medicine and bespoke manufacturing with their headquarters in Hampshire, Gravatom Engineering Systems took the decision to open a new engineering facility close to its existing clients within the nuclear industry in Cumbria and those in the NW region.

Gravatom wanted a local event management company who was not only experienced in the nuclear sector but was aware of local political and socio-economic environment in order to best introduce themselves to their new community and stakeholders.

As an empty facility at that time, Gravatom asked Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events to consider introducing an original way of attracting guests to its new factory – not easy when there is little to see. However, Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events did this with much enthusiasm, utilising the unique acoustic qualities of the empty factory unit to organise an evening event which featured the evocative and stirring sounds of a local male voice choir.

Complemented by a series of presentations, local cuisine and a small exhibition of companies who worked with Gravatom, the 100+ strong audience of VIPs – county, district and borough councillors, existing and potential clients; and other notable guests – were given a ‘night to remember’, so much so that it still talked about by those in the local community who recount our innovative approach to event management.

PaR Systems UK Launch

Client: PaR Systems

A specialist in high value remote and robotic handing technology, PaR systems has supplied the UK nuclear sector with products for many years but has principally operated from its home in the USA.

A decision was taken to open an office in the UK near to the NW nuclear industry and in doing so the company wanted a local event management company who was not only experienced in the nuclear sector but was aware of the local political and socio-economic environment in order to best introduce themselves to their new community and stakeholders.

Using PaR System’s new offices at the Westlakes Science & Technology Park and the near-by Sellafield Visitors Centre as venues, Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events organised two separate events to encourage key individuals from within the nuclear sector to attend.

Nu-Tech Exhibitions + Events undertook all elements of the project planning and management including the promotion, distribution and management of guests’ attendance, catering, AV production and other event requirements.
